This will easily meet and exceed most needs nowadays with an excellent performance to price ratio.

You can easily run a single desktop display, main ProPresenter output, as well as an additional ProPresenter output like a stage display or announcements feed through native display outputs, all without the need for additional output hardware.

You can also drive up to eight 1080p SDI outputs in addition to a single desktop display with ease.

For less demanding setups, this is a phenomenal bang for the buck.

I recommend getting a minimum of 512GB storage for the best speed.

While this model only supports a maximum of two native graphics display outputs, the computer is easily capable of handling more in many cases. Getting an additional video output can often cost less than $150 using the Blackmagic UltraStudio Monitor 3G.

IMPORTANT: While it is easily tempting to try using a simple USB-C to HDMI adapter with multiple HDMI ports to try and get more display outputs, it is not a supported or recommended method. The additional hardware listed on this page are basically the only ways I, Renewed Vision, and Apple recommend getting additional display outputs.

The biggest caveat is it only comes with Windows 11 Home, but that is an easy and fairly inexpensive part to upgrade.

All in all, this is an excellent budget-friendly solution for small-to-medium sized systems.

At this price point though, don't expect to have as much expansion or upgradability. Also don't expect certain components like the power supply, SSD, or RAM to be the best quality. So performance and durability may also suffer just a bit when compared to the top pick.

I will admit, finding a suitable machine for this spot at the lowest price possible was VERY tricky.

The overlap in the Venn diagram for performance/quality/budget is tiny. Go too cheap and you will have a bad day in the not-too-distant future. Go for performance and the dollar signs start swiftly adding up.

Many budget computers will sacrifice at least one component or spec, and usually multiple components or specs, to meet a certain price point. You get decent performance but only get Windows 11 Home, you get Windows 11 Pro but get a crap power supply with no room to spare, you get a decent power supply but end up with an older processor that really should be 6 feet underground by now, and so on.

So yeah, hopefully you see the dilemma...

Therefore, this is one machine I believe to offer some of the best balance in terms of specs, reliability, room to grow, and price point.

It offers a recent generation Intel i3 processor, a powerful NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card, the minimum RAM and storage I recommend for this type of system, and a 600 watt power supply that will leave some headroom for expansion or upgrades.

While the GPU has the capability of driving more than 30 million pixels at 60Hz, the limitation of this machine will usually be the Intel i3.

For the simplest of tasks and smallest of budgets, the Intel NUC is a great fit (maybe even literally).

These little beasts are also beloved and have a large and active community for good reasons.

They're perfect for things like digital signage, classrooms, conference rooms, kids rooms, student rooms, video playback, backup machines, and all the other auxiliary tasks you or I can think of.

It's a bummer that Intel decided to discontinue the NUC series, because it has been a great solution for many simple tasks. But, at least we get to benefit from it just a bit longer. Just be aware that support for NUC components and products will end in the near future.

While the computer technically can support up to four discrete 4K display outputs, I recommend keeping it to a maximum of two (via the HDMI and mini DisplayPort outputs).

Bang for the buck was the objective here.

This configuration will easily cover a vast majority of ProPresenter setups now and a few years to come, including some simpler 4K situations.

In my opinion, the sweet spot for this machine will be a single 4K desktop output plus a single 4K ProPresenter output or up to four 1080p ProPresenter outputs.

Here is a breakdown of the parts I chose and why:

  • CPU
    • This 13th generation Intel i7 has plenty of oomph to cover ProPresenter with room to spare.
  • Motherboard
    • Plenty of I/O and speed to handle most things you throw at it. Just be aware that the two PCIe slots are x4 max, so they will only be able to accommodate some HD DeckLink cards like the Duo 2.
  • Memory
    • 32GB should be enough to handle ProPresenter with ease.
  • Storage
    • These M.2 SSDs are plenty fast enough to run your operating system and media in most cases. 2TB hits a sweet spot for most people, but this is an easy item to upgrade or add another. Just be sure to always have a backup of your files on another separate drive or cloud storage.
  • Graphics
    • I like how this GPU balances processing power without putting out a ton of heat or pulling excessive wattage.
  • Case
    • Just a good quality case with plenty of room and lots of cooling capabilities. With the tempered glass side you can keep it subdued in blacks and grays, or you can go all out with RGBs if you wish.
  • Fans
    • When it comes to moving heat, Noctua does it so well. Enough fans here to keep internal temperatures at bay.

The goal here is simple: bare necessities at a reasonable cost.

But be aware that this is NOT the cheapest build possible. Not even close.

ProPresenter is not a lightweight software by any stretch of the imagination, so price points are going to reflect that reality. But this system still has plenty of headroom to keep it running reliably and consistently for a long time.

Consider this the computer for simple setups that only need a single ProPresenter output plus a stage display or other secondary output. This will be a solid choice for small churches, classrooms, multi-use rooms, kids rooms, student rooms, and simple playback machines.

The sweet spot for this machine will be a single desktop display (4K is possible, but I would aim for a max of 1440p for best results), a single 1080p ProPresenter main output, and a single 1080p ProPresenter stage display or secondary output.

Here is a breakdown of the parts I chose and why:

  • CPU
    • A slightly older Intel i5, but still with plenty of power to handle ProPresenter well for quite a while.
  • Motherboard
    • None of the latest and greatest features in terms of speed or efficiency, but still plenty of I/O and expansion capabilities to cover many needs.
  • Memory
    • 16GB is the bare minimum I recommend. In my opinion, it would be wise to double this if your budget allows. Your future self may thank you for that.
  • Storage
    • These M.2 SSDs are plenty fast enough to run your operating system and media in most cases. 1TB should cover most situations, but this is an easy item to upgrade. Just be sure to always have a backup of your files on another separate drive or cloud storage.
  • Graphics
    • The integrated Intel UHD 770 graphics aren't nearly as powerful a dedicated GPU, but they can handle a few HD outputs just fine.
  • Case
    • A smaller case that doesn't sacrifice in cooling capabilities.
  • Fans
    • When it comes to moving heat, Noctua does it so well. Enough fans here to keep internal temperatures at bay.

This is the ONLY display adapter I use and trust for Apple computers with Thunderbolt/USB-C ports.

Not only is it the most reliable adapter I've used (a considerable majority of third party USB-C display adapters out there do not fully meet USB-C, Thunderbolt, and DisplayPort specifications, and some of them can even cause computers to crash or slow down to a crawl), it is the only display adapter out there that can receive firmware updates through macOS.

Multi-Display Hardware

Sometimes it makes the most sense to take one high resolution computer output and split it across multiple displays or destinations in order to get more discrete outputs. This is where multi-display processors in this category come into play.

These boxes work great for things like doublewide, triplewide, and environmental projection.

They can also help to potentially get around ProPresenter's imposed limit of eight discrete outputs because they are seen by the computer and ProPresenter as one display output. In theory, one could probably drive up to 32 total displays by using eight of these processors, but that is obviously not practical and not something I recommend.
